Energy Internet and Energy Metering
The integration of the Internet of Things (IoT) with smart energy metering has opened up new opportunities for advanced energy management. IoT energy meters, featuring integrated sensors and communication modules, facilitate real-time data collection and transmission. The existing Smart Meter Targets Framework, set out in the gas and electricity supply licence conditions, was designed to ensure timely delivery of the smart meter rollout by setting energy suppliers minimum annual smart meter installation targets. These systems enhance transparency in energy consumption and help identify inefficiencies or anomalies in real time. Sensors, actuators, and control units form the backbone of the IoT infrastructure.
